Is It March Yet?

Professional teams call it the playoffs. Some leagues call it the championship games. In the game of College Basketball, all know about the third month of the year where each shot counts and each second matters. March Madness, the single-elimination tournament that has everyone’s heart pounding during the later games and that has the attention of most if not all media outlets. Did you see any March Madness news on twitter? Must have at least seen something on the news or the ads posted across the city announcing the approaching onslaught of college game after college game. 64 teams join from across the US to battle it out and figure out who the best college basketball team is that season. The incredible part about March Madness is the fact that it is just that, complete madness. Every year, there are millions if not billions of brackets filled out to hopefully land a correct winner and predetermine who beats who in each match up. And even though the sheer amount of brackets filled may be overwhelming, there is yet to be someone who has created a completely perfect bracket because there are always blowouts, always upsets and the ones who you believe to make it to the end, don’t even get passed the door.

It wasn’t until I got to college that I actually started to watch sports in general and it wasn’t until I went to a March Madness game in Maryland that I got into the college basketball scene and found it interesting as the season started to end. The setup and the intensity that is present with each game is beyond any regular season game. With the exception of top teams facing in possible overtime, March Madness is where everything is left on the line, where the lights are brighter and the crowd is bigger and wilder. Overall, the experience is one to have in person, and a time I doubt any participants of any team will ever forget.
