Draft Time in a New Age

Champions are crowned. Seasons end. Dust settles. The interesting, fun and connective part about sports can be used as another motivational piece or discouraging fact for some teams and players. “There’s always next year”. As a young player coming into any league, this allows for growth, for improvement and opportunity for a second chance. For the media, another crazed time of finding out which young prospect will be added to whos roster. How will this individual change the game? Will they be a bust? The fun thing about sports is that every year there is a draft for incoming talent for professional teams to add to their roster in hopes to improve their chances toward getting the title of “Champion”. This past week, there was the NBA draft following the championship series with the Toronto Raptors being victorious. Notable names like Zion Williamson and Cobey White add a new level of excitement that fans can look forward. Who was your favorite college basketball player? If you don’t have one, who was your favorite team?

Personally, I have a new perspective on the draft and on the NBA’s new league collection as I am starting to out-age a lot of the incoming players. Coming up as a highschooler and younger athlete, looking up to the draftees in the NFL and NBA was having my head tilted to the ceiling as these individuals were much older and a lot more talented. Now having a new draft class that doesn’t know what a Nintendo 64 is, means that I am getting older. What is something that you remember from your childhood that these new 2000s babies probably have no clue even existed? Floppy Disks?
